Would you like to know one of the latest suburban field in Europe? In Valencian orchard (huerta of Valencia) the mixture of water, the productive land and the wisdom of farmers have created a unique environment that will make you forget that the city is at your doorstep.
You will be picked up from your Valencia hotel and then a local guide will take you along the great environmental, cultural and historical heritage that treasures this rural zone: waterwheels, Arab ditches, local crops, little fields, traditional farm houses (alquerías and barracas), and you will discover all about the traditions and customs of the locals. You will be surprised with the curious history of the institution that regulates water irrigation in this area: the Tribunal de las Aguas (Water Court), declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, that still has a great importance to resolve many conflicts between farmers, that have been generated by the use of water.
Then, you will experience the true essence of the Valencian Orchard by yourself. We'll take you to a singular barraca (hut) in the middle of the orchard where you will see typical carriages, a small Museum with farming tools that were used in the past, a mini farm, horse stables and crops of fresh vegetables. You could see how the chef prepare the fresh ingredients for the paella -that you will savor in a few minutes-, and get close to the stove to take a look as its cooked by an expert chef.
It’s time to prepare your senses for what is to come because your table will be filled with a variety of typical dishes, but we recommend you to reserve a hole to delight in one of the best paellas in Valencia, exquisite desserts, Valencian sweets, coffee and mistela wine.
This incredible day is not over yet! You will enjoy a traditional carriage ride through the orchard until you arrive to a small hut equipped in the traditional way, so you can go into to learn how the orchard’s people lived until a few years ago.
