This tour combines an introduction to the local methods of wine, cheese and olive oil elaboration while sightseeing and tasting your way through some of Spain’s most renowned delicacies. Is there a better way to learn about a new culture and understanding its culinary traditions while having a great time and making new friends? On this day out on the countryside, we’ll meet an artisanal Manchego-style sheep cheese producer, local olive farmers and a wine maker.
After visiting their estates we’ll sample their products. The famous Manchego cheese is produced in a region called “La Mancha”, just south of Madrid. It is made out of sheep milk and cured to different degrees to obtain different levels of smoothness or intensity in flavor. Right around Madrid is also an ancient wine region. For over two thousand years wine cultivation has been an integral part of Spanish identity, and the art of its elaboration has been passed on through many generations. The same is true for olives: Spain is the world’s most important olive producer, and its extra-virgin oils are classified as being among the best. The healthy Mediterranean cuisine would not exist without this so-called “liquid gold”.
