"Cooking with 4 Hands" is a 4 hour guided tour during which you will be introduced to the cooking skills and techniques used to prepare some of the most outstanding fish in the world. Portugal is unique among Mediterranean countries in that it consumes more fish than Spain or Italy. It is in fact the third world consumer of fish per capita after Japan and Iceland. More than fifty different species are regularly captured in Portuguese waters.

We meet in the morning and you will be greeted in one of the most beautiful Lisbon plazas by our professional guide.
The guide will lead you through the various steps of this hands-on experience while introducing some of Lisbon's hidden gems and its history. This experience has four main moments, described below, during which you will choose and learn about local ingredients, share kitchens with two fantastic chefs, help with some of the cooking and taste a final meal and various in-between delicacies prepared with you and for you!

We believe this extraordinary food experience with Tiago Feio and Hugo Brito will transform your idea of Portuguese food culture and indeed your own cooking!
All tasting moments are paired with especially selected Portuguese wines.

After the obligatory morning coffee you will head to the famous Mercado da Ribeira where, together with our specialist fish and seafood supplier Dona Rosa, you choose the freshest catch of the day and learn about the different seasonal varieties of fish and seafood. Dona Rosa supplies some of Lisbon’s most renowned fish and seafood restaurants, so you will be in good hands and can learn all about how to pick the freshest sea produce. Shopping basket in hand our guide will bring you, on local transport, to the beautiful Lisbon neighbourhood of Alfama where we will knock on the door of our first chef Tiago Feio and begin our mise en place….

Your cooking experience starts at the glamorous Belmonte Palace, where you will surprise owner and chef of Leopold restaurant, Tiago Feio, with your market catch. Tiago’s cuisine is marked by an innovative approach to traditional Portuguese ingredients using modern techniques in the setting of a 5 star kitchen.

Here you will learn about how to handle a whole fish through different preparations. You will also taste the market produce in its purest state, appreciating the freshness and seasonality of the ingredients. After the preparations, tastings and wine pairings you will re-stack your shopping basket and with your guide walk down to our next kitchen, to meet Hugo Brito.

At Hugo Brito's 'Boi Cavalo' restaurant, we will create something fresh and unique, building on Tiago Feio's preparations. Chef Hugo Brito opened 'Boi Cavalo' in 2014 in an old butcher's shop, and he has since been reinventing Portuguese gastronomy through research into historical recipes, the use of modern molecular techniques and lots of creativity and innovation in mixing ingredients, flavours and textures.
With chef Hugo Brito you will take the preparations from the previous stop and design a unique meal that closes your sea-to-plate "Cooking with 4 Hands" experience.
