We will visit cloistered nuns that make the city’s famous almond cake, Tarta de Santiago and have a wander around the bustling town market, known simply to locals as ‘la plaza’. The wonderful local produce here, especially fish and seafood is a joy to behold. We will visit both traditional hostelries and cutting edge vinotecas where you’ll have the opportunity to taste some of Galicia’s very best artisanal wines.
These wines will be accompanied by quintessential Galician dishes such as pulpo á feira (which very loosely translates as ‘octopus as served at the fair’), tortilla(spanish omlette), pimientos de padrón (fried green peppers) and several types of locally harvested shellfish such as mejillones (mussels), berberechos (cockles) and zamburiñas (queen scallops). Whilst the emphasis is on traditional fare, you will get the chance to try what some chefs call updated Galician cuisine. This is a slow paced walking tour with a decidedly epicurean focus. The region’s fine wines and signature dishes will prove an unforgettable experience.
