Highlights
- Taste great Galician wines in the city’s most popular albeit off the beaten track vinotecas and bars.
- Visit cute Romanesque churches, leafy squares, markets, traditional taverns and old food stores.
- Taste excellent local cheeses, delicious cured ham and beef other local specialities.
The city’s claim to fame is the Farum Brigantium, a lighthouse built by the Romans in the 2nd century and dedicated to the god of war, Mars. Known today as the Tower of Hercules, it’s the world’s only fully operational Roman lighthouse and the city’s most emblematic building.
On our walking tour we will explore parts of the town normally off the radar for most visitors. We will visit cute Romanesque churches, leafy squares, markets, traditional taverns and old food stores where time appears to have stood still.
We will taste top wines at three different locations and sample excellent local cheeses, delicious cured ham and beef other local specialities. Our charming hosts will tell us about the history of their establishments and how they have managed to survive in a modern world.
